Laurel Burch was a self-taught artist and 'flower child' who sold handmade jewellery on the streets of San Francisco in the 1960s, the time and place to be apart of the hippie movement. Surviving on the profits made from her jewellery and commissioned paintings for restaurants, businesses and private collectors, Burch continued to rely on her intuition and passion, speaking from the heart with distinctive style that allowed her love of life and strong imaginative nature to take form, manifesting as a highly acclaimed art company. From her fertile imagination, she created brilliantly coloured, vibrant and moving themes, exquisitely embellished with gold and silver, this 'Mediterranean Cats' cover exhibiting Burch's best known work; featuring seductive enigma that is the cat as the central subject.
