Combing the two Latin words 'filum' (thread) and 'granum' (seed), Silver 'Filigree' describes the process of achieving this gilded and polished motif; first die cutting a base layer of silver sheets followed by meticulously etching elaborate grooves into its surface. The original binding of the Paperblanks Silver Filigree range dates back to 1697, created in Strasbourg, France for the binding of Johann Arndt’s 'Paradiesgärtlein'. The art of filigree is a moving testament to the human drive to ornament in order to delight the eye and focus the spirit and attention, these embellished products characterising arbitrators of great importance; containing irreplaceable script or belonging to someone of significance.
